The No. 5 Arizona State University water polo team improved to 4-0 on the season with victories over ranked teams from UC Santa Barbara and CSU Northridge on Saturday at the UCSB Winter Invitational. Full recaps of each game are below.
SANTA BARBARA, Calif. – The No. 5 Arizona State University water polo team didn’t cruise like they had in their first three games, but the Sun Devils held on to come out on top over a tough #15 UC Santa Barbara squad, 10-7, to improve to 4-0 on the season while wrapping up the second day of action at the UCSB Winter Invite.
Alicia Brightwell continued her amazing start to the season, putting away four goals to lead the Sun Devils over a scrappy UCSB squad competing with the home-pool advantage at the Campus Pool. The tally put Brightwell at 17 goals through four games as she continued to live up to her first-team All-American distinction.
Petra Pardi added three goals for her first hat trick of the season while Shannon Haas netted two goals and Anna Kertes had another. E.B. Keeve had eight saves from the cage as she improved to 4-0 in her first four starts as a Sun Devil.
The Gauchos were 6-0 heading into this evening’s contest while the Sun Devils have yet to give up more than seven goals in a match in the tournament and scoring 10 or more in each game.
The Sun Devils wrap up the UCSB Winter Invite tomorrow with a tough test against #6 UC Irvine before taking on Concordia to wrap up the weekend.
