MALIBU, Calif. -

After over a month straight of duals play in Tempe, Ariz., The No. 21 Sun Devils defeated Boise State 6-1 on the road in the first match of a double match weekend in Malibu, Calif.

The now 6-1 Devils started the morning off strong with a sweep of all three doubles points, even with the No. 1 doubles pair a little mixed up. Junior Nicole Smith competed along side Jacqueline Cako, winning 8-4.

"I was pleased with our doubles as we came out with a lot of energy and played very solid," head coach Sheila McInerney said. "Hannah (James) filled in for Nikki (Smith) at the number one doubles and played very well."

The only point for the Broncos came at number three singles, where Sandy Vo led Arizona State's Hannah James 6-3, 2-3 when the match was retired.

"Our singles matches were tough and we did a good job staying disciplined, and I think we competed well," said McInerney. "Overall, I thought we played a good match today against a very competitive Boise State team."
