TEMPE, Ariz. – Dallas Escobedo threw a no-hitter on Friday night as the Arizona State softball team shut out Central Connecticut State 8-0 in five innings. With the victory, ASU continues its win streak to seven games.
Katelyn Boyd went 2-for-2 with a double and a stolen base and Haley Steele hit her third home run of the season to go 2-for-3 with 3 RBI in the game.
The Devils marked the scoreboard in the bottom of the first with an RBI single from Alix Johnson to bring home Boyd, who reached on a single to left field.
After two quick three-out innings from Escobedo, bats got hot in the second inning for the Sun Devil offense. After a CCSU error brought in Amber Freeman and Christina Zambrana, another RBI single from Annie Lockwood scored Wigness.
The bottom of the fourth pulled four more runs for ASU, with Sam Parlich slicing a single up the middle for Boyd’s second run of the night. Soon followed by Haley Steele’s home run just over the left center wall to score three more runs for the Devils, run-ruling CCSU 8-0 in five.
Escobedo fanned nine Blue Devils on the evening in the no-hitter with only two walks to bump her record to 4-1 overall. This marks her first career no-hitter.
The Devils continue the series against Central Connecticut on Saturday with a doubleheader starting at 4:30 p.m. Wear pink to the game to help the Sun Devils Strike Out Cancer and receive $3 general admission.
