The Arizona State men's golf team put together a solid second round on Thursday at the 22nd annual Amer Ari Invitational held at the Waikola Beach Resort in Hawaii.

Led by a hole-in-one by freshman Austin Quick, the team shot a 3-under 285 and is now in seventh-place in the strong 20-team field after shooting a 286 on Wednesday. Quick is at 5-under 139 and tied for 14th after a 4-under-68 on Thursday. It easily was his best round of his freshman season, as in 13 previous rounds his best score was a 72. A local product who led Chaparral to three state championships, Quick's hole-in-one came on the 188-yard No. 11.

Quick showed promise after Christmas when he was part of the first Patriot All-America Championship held Dec. 28-30, 2011, at the Wigwam Resort (Gold) in Litchfield Park, Ariz. He shot a even-par 213 (69-72-72) to finish tied for 13th in the 72-player field, and although those scores don't count in his collegiate stats they surely showed that he was starting to play well against good competition.

Junior Jin Song improved his score by six strokes in the second round, notching a 3-under 69 to go with his 3-over 75 on Wednesday and is tied for 39th along with freshman Mathias Schjoelberg (68-76). Senior Spencer Fletcher is tied for 53rd (74-72=146) while freshman David Lowe is at 7-over 151 (73-78) and tied for 88th.

Texas leads the field at 19-under 557 (270-287), while Pac-12 foes UCLA (560), USC (561), and Washington (562) are next on the leaderboard.

The tournament concludes Friday.
