Arizona State (8-17; 4-9) did not have enough offensive fire power against Colorado (17-8; 9-4) as they lost 63-49 at Wells Fargo Arena Saturday afternoon. Despite a solid first half performance, they were unable to keep up with the Buffaloes, losing their 17th game of the season.
Jonathan Gilling led the Sun Devils with 11 points. Trent Lockett added 10 points and Kyle Cain put up eight.
The Sun Devils maintained a small lead for much of the first half behind the shooting of Jonathan Gilling. Solid defense cut down on the Buffaloes chances on offense until a late run allowed Colorado to grab the lead. The score was 28-21 Colorado at the half.
Spencer Dinwiddie was a difference maker for Colorado in the second half recording all of his 15 points and helping the Buffaloes hold onto a double digit lead. The Sun Devils hung around but were unable to come back into the game. The Buffaloes' shooting from the foul line sealed the deal late giving them their 17th win of the season.
ASU shot 35.8 percent (19 of 53) from the field, 33.3 percent (7 of 21) from behind the arc.
The Buffaloes shot 45.7 percent (21 of 46) as a team, 46.2 percent (6 of 13) from three. Andre Roberson and Austin Dufault put up 12 each for the Buffaloes.
The Sun Devils once again had their offensive troubles, this game giving away 18 turnovers. As usual they showed stretches of solid play, but that was not enough to contend with one of the top teams in the conference.
Arizona State travels to Washington next week to take on Washington and Washington State. They return home to play UCLA the 23rd and USC the 25th.
