TEMPE, Ariz. - The Arizona State swimming and diving program split their home Pac-12 dual meet against the Utah Utes on Sunday, as ASU earned a decisive victory on the women's side while the men's team narrowly fell to the Utes in a highly competitive battle that remained fierce until the end.
With three quarters of the meet in the books, the 18th-ranked women secured another W for the season and ended the meet with a score of 154-121 after exhibitioning the final three events. ASU placed first in all but two of the women's events, losing the top spot to Utah in only the 400 free relay and the 100 free. The meet entered exhibition scoring after the 100 fly when Caroline Kuczynski pushed the Devils past 150 points. Tristin Baxter notched three first-place finishes, including the 200 free where ASU swept the top four spots. Taylor Wohrley and Cassie Morrice has two first-place touches of their own.
On the men's side, the Sun Devils tied up the meet twice but eventually fell to the Utes 122-158. The ASU men missed out on the key diving points with both Harrison Jones and Riley McCormick out of the meet. Thibaut Capitaine had a solid performance in the pool as he hit the wall first in two races, including a season-best time of 2:03.38 in the 200 breast.
