The Arizona State men's golf team heads into the 2012 Bill Cullum Invitational hoping to match their success from last year, where they tied for first as a team and saw former Sun Devil Spencer Fletcher tie for first for an individual. The first 36 holes of the 54-hole tournament will be start Monday at 7:45 a.m. (PT) from Wood Ranch Golf Club in Simi Valley, Calif., with the final 18 holes starting Tuesday morning. Wood Ranch is a par-72, 6,819 yard course.
The ASU golfers are led by three freshmen once again, including Jon Rahm Rodriguez, Alberto Sanchez and Max Rottluff. Rahm Rodriguez has consistently led the squad up until this point in the year, while Sanchez has placed second multiple times. Rounding out the field for the Sun Devils will be sophomore Mathias Schjoelberg and senior Chris Russo.
Accompanying ASU in the event will be Boise State, Cal Poly, Cal State Fullerton, CSU Bakersfield, Gonzaga, Hawai'i, Long Beach State, Loyola Marymount, Sacramento State, San Diego, Seattle, Southern Utah, UC Irvine, UC Riverside, UC Santa Barbara, Utah State, Washington State, Weber State and Cal State Northridge.
Arizona State shot a 283-288-282--853 to tie for the win while Fletcher shot two rounds of 68 and a 72 to tie for the tournament championship.
