NORTHBROOK, Ill. - Arizona State University football student-athlete Brandon Magee has been nominated for the 2012 AFCA Good Works Team, Allstate Insurance Company and the American Football Coaches Association (AFCA) announced Tuesday.

Magee has made more than 30 visits to elementary schools across the valley to talk to kids about overcoming obstacles, the importance of education and maintaining a positive mindset. He has also coordinated health fairs for local elementary school children and their families, as well as visited several hospitals, churches and other youth organizations in the Phoenix area. In addition, Magee has been to Grand Canyon Academy on several occasions to speak about the benefits of academic success and is an active member on ASU's campus.

The award, which was established in 1992 and is viewed as one of college football's most prestigious off-the-field honors, recognizes a select group of college football players committed to making a difference in their communities and recipients represent the sport's finest in terms of character and leadership in the community.

In order to meet the criteria set forth by Allstate and the AFCA, each player must be actively involved and committed to working with a charitable organization, service group or community service while maintaining a strong academic standing.

Sports information directors submitted nominations on behalf of their schools, and a special voting panel consisting of former Allstate AFCA Good Works Team members and prominent college football media members will select an 11-player Good Works Team comprised of players from the NCAA Football Bowl Subdivision. The final roster of award recipients will be unveiled in September.

Allstate and the AFCA will launch the Allstate AFCA Good Works Team website on ESPN.com featuring profiles and images of the final team members, as well as the opportunity for fans to vote for the 2012 Allstate AFCA Good Works Team Captain.
