FRANKLIN, Tenn.--After the second round of competition at the 2012 NCAA Women's Golf Championship, the fourth-ranked Arizona State women's golf teams holds steady in a tie for fifth place. The Sun Devils shot a two-round total of 7-over 583 (292-291), one stroke out of second place and 12 shots back from leader Alabama.

On Tuesday, head coach Melissa Luellen said the team's goal for the second round was to throw out a score of 74 or lower and the team accomplished just that. In a demonstration in consistency, no Sun Devil shot higher than 2-over in round two. ASU teed off on the back nine to start the day but the highlights of the day came after the team made the turn.

After recording 2-over through 13 holes, senior Giulia Molinaro started sinking shots left and right recording three birdies in the final five holes. Molinaro's performance vaulted the senior into second place after the second round of competition, just two shots behind leader Brooke Pancake of Alabama.

Sophomore Laura Blanco and freshman Noemi Jimenez played consistently during the second round of competition with each golfer recording the same score as the previous round. Blanco is tied for 25th shooting back-to-back 73s, while Jimenez is tied for 42nd after day two.

The second round also marked an improvement by both sophomores Daniela Ordonez and Justine Lee. Lee, who had shot 4-over in the first round, barely missed an eagle putt on nine to finish with a 1-over 73. Ordonez also improved on her scores from the previous round, shooting 2-over 74.

The third round of the 2012 NCAA Championships at the Vanderbilt Legends Club in Franklin, Tenn., continues Thursday with the Sun Devils teeing off at Noon with South Carolina and Virginia. Live video from the ninth and 18th holes will be available from the NCAA on Thursday and Friday.
