TEMPE, Ariz. - The Arizona State (48-7) softball team dropped Syracuse, 3-1, on Saturday in front of a crowd of 739 inside Farrington Stadium. The team continues competition at the NCAA Tempe Regional as part of the NCAA Softball Championships on Sunday at 3 p.m. PT when the Sun Devils face Syracuse again.

The Sun Devils will resume play on Sunday, May 20 at 3 p.m. (PT) against Syracuse and at 6 p.m. (PT) if needed.

Sophomore pitcher Dallas Escobedo pitched a gem, posting 11 strikeouts and allowing just two hits in a complete game to improve to 21-4 on the season.  Jenna Saira took the loss for the Orange (41-15) dropping to 25-8 on the year.

The teams were locked in a pitcher's dual for much of the game, with a three-run fourth inning for the Sun Devils proving to be the difference in the game.

Syracuse got on the board first on a Stephanie Watts double to left field in the first that sent Lisaira Daniels home from second.  Escobedo would allow just one more hit over the course of the game, however, leaving it in the hands of the ASU offense to do the rest.

The Sun Devils struggled against Caira early, however, posting just two base runners on walks through the first 3 2/3 innings before a Haley Steele double down the left field line and an Amber Freeman walk loaded the bases for Sam Parlich who lined a single into left to score Elizabeth Caporuscio to knot the game at one apiece.

Christina Zambrana followed that up with a single to left center that scored pinch runner Kayla Ketchum and Steele to put ASU up for what would be the eventual final score of 3-1.

From there, it was all Escobedo as she allowed just one base runner on a walk over the final three innings while posting four more strikeouts to finish things off.
