DENVER, Colo.— Sophomore Samantha Seaman recorded three scores of 9.800-plus as the Arizona State women’s gymnastics team scored a total of 194.225 in a quad meet at the University of Denver, Saturday. Minnesota took the victory on the evening with score of 196.225, followed by Denver (196.200) and Iowa (194.500).
Leading the Sun Devils in the all-around, Seaman scored a total of 39.150 in all four events. The sophomore’s total was just shy of her career high of 39.175 set at UCLA this season.
The Sun Devils recorded their highest event total on the night on beam scoring a 48.850. Seaman and senior Beaté Jones led the Sun Devils, with Jones’ season-high score of 9.825 starting off the beam line-up for ASU. Seaman would follow Jones’ lead and also add a 9.825 to the team score. Freshman Brianna Gades recorded a 9.800 to hit all 11 beam routines in which she has competed for ASU.
For the second straight meet it was the trio of senior Callie Price, Seaman and senior Beaté Jones to knock a 1-2-3 punch into the line-up. Price scored a 9.775 as the third gymnast in the line-up, while Seaman tied her career high she set against Stanford with a 9.875. Seaman’s vault of 9.875 was the second-highest vault of the meet among the four-team line-up. Jones closed out the Sun Devil line-up with a 9.850 to give ASU a team total of 48.700.
ASU started out the night on floor for the quad meet. Freshman Brianna Gades paced the Sun Devils scoring a career-high 9.850, besting her previous high of 9.775 she set on the road at Arizona. Seaman led off Arizona State on floor with a score of 9.800, while Natasha Sundby, who has consistently score well for ASU all season, records a 9.775.
The Sun Devils hit a rough patch on bars, having to a count a fall in the event. Senior Kahoku Palafox scored an event high 9.775 for ASU. Freshman Natelle Gentile tied her career high of 9.750 in the second spot in the line-up for the Sun Devils. Seaman and Jones each scored a 9.650 to add to the team total of 47.925.
Next week the Sun Devils head to Salt Lake City, Utah to compete at the Pac-12 women’s gymnastics Championships, on Mar. 24th.
