LOGAN, Utah--For the first time since 2006, the Arizona State women's gymnastics team is 4-0 on the season with its victory over Utah State at the Dee Glen Smith Spectrum on Friday in Logan, Utah. The Sun Devils defeated the Aggies by a score of 194.600-192.575.
Senior Beate Jones earned her third-consecutive all-around title of the season with a score of 39.175. Jones was a consistent force for the Sun Devils, scoring a meet-high 9.875 on floor. Sophomore Samantha Seaman made her all-around debut for the season against Utah State scoring a new career-high of 39.075 in the process.
It was a career night for Amelia Rew, as the junior scored two new career bests on both bars and beam. Rew, who made her line-up debut on beam, scored a meet-high 9.800 to win the event. It was also the first time Rew has competed on beam as a Sun Devil. The junior notched a career best on bars, scoring a 9.775 for the third-best overall score of the meet.
The Sun Devils are now 4-0 on the season for the first time since 2006, a year which saw ASU finish ninth at the NCAA Championships and head coach John Spini win the 2006 Pacific-10 Conference Co-Coach of the Year award.
Up next the Sun Devils will once again face rival No. 18 Arizona for the second of two State Farm Territorial Cup match-ups on Feb. 10 at 7 p.m. MT at the McKale Center in Tucson, Ariz. The Sun Devils won the first half point in Tempe, defeating the Wildcats with a season-high score of 195.875.
