Tempe, Ariz. – Freshman Brianna Gades would have an outstanding performance on bars and beam along with fellow freshman Natasha Sundby on floor, but it would not be enough to take down the No. 1 Utes.
Starting the Gym Devils off on vault, senior Callie Price tied her career record scoring a 9.850. Natasha Sundby and Samantha Seaman would both score a 9.775, which also ties Seaman’s season high. Beate Jones would also tie her season high on vault with a score of 9.875 giving the Sun Devils a total score of 49.000 on vault, which would keep them tied with the Utes.
Jones got the ball rolling for the Sun Devils on bars with a score of 9.600. Senior Kahoku Palafox would keep that momentum going with a score of 9.750 after sticking her landing. Brianna Gades not only scored the highest on bars for the Sun Devils, she also tied her season and career high of 9.800. Stephanie Hangartner would finish on bars with a score 9.750.
Jones had a very strong series followed by sticking her landing for a score of 9.800 to start the Devils on beam. Gades nailed a graceful routine on beam scoring a 9.850, beating her season and career high of 9.800 getting the Gym Devils off to a great start. Natelle Gentile beat her season and career high of 9.700 by finishing strong with a score of 9.775. Palafox stuck her landing after completing a strong routine, but due to a slight wobble she would score a 9.525. Madison Snowden put her game face on while landing strong with a score of 9.750.
Bouncing back after hitting her head during her bars routine, Seaman finished strong with a score of 9.775 to start the Sun Devils off on floor. Picking up the momentum was freshman Sundby finishing with a 9.850. Snowden nailed her running series and tied her season high of 9.825. Jones would finish strong, but after falling out of her last pass she would receive a 9.300 score. Arizona State would end with an overall team score of 48.450 on floor, falling to the Utes, 194.000 – 196.150.
