The Arizona State men's golf team is in 7th-place after the first 36 holes at the Tucker Invitational in Albuquerque, N.M. Freshman Stan Gautier is leading the way for the Sun Devils, posting a 1-over-par 145 in his first two collegiate rounds.
Gautier, who did not play in the teams' first tournament at Olympia Fields, Ill., shot a 4-under-par 68 in round one, which put him in first-place going into the second round. He birdied six holes, including the first two, and two-of-the-last three. Gautier shot a 5-over-par 77 in the second round to put him at 1-over-par for the day.
Senior Spencer Fletcher came off his first top-10 finish of his college career to shoot a 5-over-par 149. He birdied four holes on the final 18 to end the round at an even 72. He is tied for 29th.
Freshman Mathias Schjoelberg is also tied for 29th with a 5-over-par 149.
Junior Jin Song shot a 10-over-par 154 on the day and is tied for 61st, and freshman David Lowe is tied for 68th after posting an 11-over-par 155. This marks Lowe's first college tournament as well.
Freshman Austin Quick shot a 12-over-par 156 and is tied for 74th playing as an independent.
UNLV, ranked 11th by golfstat.com, holds a one-shot lead over 15th-ranked New Mexico, with a 4-over-par 580. New Mexico shot a 5-over-par 581. Six different teams--Air Force, San Diego State, Arizona, BYU, New Mexico, and UNLV--all held the lead at one point in the first two rounds. The Sun Devils shot a 19-over-par 595 and trail UNLV by 14 strokes.
The whole field will tee off round three at 7:45 a.m. (PT). Gautier will start his round on hole 6A.
