Seattle, Wash. - The No. 1 ASU Softball team inched towards yet another Pac-10 title Saturday as they finished off Friday’s rain delayed game with No. 13 Washington with a 6-4 win before storming ahead to take a 2-0 win in game two of the weekend. The wins gives Dallas Escobedo two more on the season as she moves to 24-3 overall while ASU holds at 47-5 and 14-3 in Pac-10 play. The Huskies fall to 32-12 and 7-10 in conference play with ASU holding a two game lead in the Pac-10 with two more games to clinch the title outright.
Game one was a bitter and wet adventure which saw both teams struggle for control as they put up four runs apiece until the fifth inning Friday when the game was called due to weather. When they resumed again on Saturday, it was all Dallas Escobedo who was nearly untouchable while Annie Lockwood stepped up immediately as the lead-off hitter in the resumed game to hit a home run to break the stalemate.
Escobedo was straight up dirty in the second game as well, giving up only three hits to the home team as her offense battled Kaitlin Inglesby of UW for the second straight game. While Inglesby put up a valiant effort, the Sun Devils were able to squeak an unearned run against her in the first inning before Krista Donnenwirth smacked another RBI single in the seventh to make it 2-0 to take the series win.
The Sun Devils will face UW once more tomorrow as they look for their third straight Pac-10 sweep of the season at noon in Seattle.
