TEMPE - Several members of the Arizona State University track and field program competed in the Iowa State Last Chance Meet on Saturday afternoon in Ames, Iowa, looking to improve upon their marks earned already this year in the final weekend individuals and relays can qualify for next week's NCAA meet. Only one ASU entry improved upon its time and that was the women's 4x400m relay, who shaved two seconds off its season best to earn an automatic berth to nationals.

The relay, which was comprised of Sarah Geren, Keia Pinnick, Kayla Sanchez and Jasmine Chaney, won the event in 3:33.72, bettering a mark of 3:35.99 that the Sun Devils had recorded several weeks ago to rank among the Top 10 nationally. Their time today put them into the NCAA Championships after surpassing the automatic qualifying time and also moved them up to No. 3 on the all-time list in school history.

Several other individuals competed in their specialty events, but did not improve upon marks they had already attained. For the women, Chaney ran a best of 8.40 on the day in the 60m hurdles, taking seventh in the final. She has run 8.22 this year.

In the field for the women, Shaylah Simpson cleared 4.00m (13-01.50) to take third in the pole vault while Anna Jelmini was fifth in the shot put with a toss o16.09m (52-09.50). For the men, Corey Phallen was second in the pole vault with a clearance of 5.00m (16-04.75) while Jordan Clarke was third in the shot put with a toss of 18.15m (59-06.75).

The NCAA Indoor Championships will be held Friday and Saturday in College Station, Texas. A full list of qualifiers into the Championships will be announced Monday night by the NCAA.
