March 11, 2011

Box Score

TEMPE, Ariz. – Alix Johnson’s first career grand slam and a stellar outing from Hillary Bach for her sixth win of the season gave No. 7 ASU Softball it’s 18th consecutive win Friday night as they topped Howard 13-1 (5) to move to 22-1 on the year. Bach moves to 6-0 after allowing only one run off three hits to the Bison.

A six run first saw the Sun Devils tear the roof off to start the game with the freshman Alix Johnson looking to see her name on the marquee as she dug in with bases loaded to demolish a 1-1 pitch deep to left center to bring three dancing teammates home for her first career grand slam in only her second career home run.

A five run inning awaited ASU in the second as nearly everyone put it in play for a hit with RBIs running aplenty for the Sun Devils to push it to 11-1 after two complete. Bailey Wigness also joined the freshman hit parade as her two RBI single in the fourth made it a 13-1 game where it would remain as the Sun Devils cruised to 22-1 overall.

The Sun Devils return to double header action tomorrow as they set to face Weber State at 1 p.m. and Virginia Tech at 3:30 p.m. in Tempe at Farrington Stadium as the Diamond  Devil Invitational rolls on.
