WESTLAKE VILLAGE, Calif. - The Arizona State men's golf team is tied for seventh at the USC Collegiate Invitational in Westlake, Calif., after play was suspended midway through the second round. The start of the event was delayed two hours due to frost, which prevented the latter holes from being completed.
The Sun Devils are at 11-over par with more than half of the second round complete following an 8-over par 292 in the first round.
Senior Scott Pinckney leads the team with a 1-under par through 29 holes and is tied for eighth. He shot a team-best even par 71 in the first round and is currently 1-under par through 11 holes in the second round. Senior Thomas Buran carded a 4-over par 75 in the first round and is at 3-over par after 29 holes. He is 1-under par through 11 holes in the second round and is in a tie for 30th.
Senior Oscar Zetterwall is tied for 36th at 4-over par through 28 holes. He recorded a 1-over par 72 in the first round and is 3-over par after 10 holes in the second round. Senior Jesper Kennegard, who collected a 5-over par 76 in the first round, is 2-over par through 12 holes in the second round and sits in a tie for 54th at 7-over par. Junior Philip Francis fired a 3-over par 74 in the first round and is at 5-over par after 12 holes in the second round, putting him in a tie for 61st at 8-over par.
San Diego State and UCLA are tied for first place at 6-under par halfway through the second round. Oregon is in third at 2-under par, followed by Michigan with a 1-over par and UC Davis at 2-over par.
The two day, 54-hole tournament is scheduled to resume at 7:30 a.m. (PT)/8:30 a.m. (MT) March 1, but another delay is expected. Tournament officials are hoping the delay will last no longer than 90 minutes. The second-round scores are not official until scorecards are turned in tomorrow.
