TEMPE, Ariz. - After falling behind early, the Sun Devils were unable to rally back, falling to Delaware 7-3 on Friday night at Winkles Field-Packard Stadium at Brock Ballpark. The loss drops ASU to 3-1 on the year.

Starter Jake Barrett was roughed up in his second career start, allowing seven runs, four earned, on eight hits. He went four innings and was saddled with the loss, dropping him to 0-1 on the year.

The Blue Hens posted a six spot off Barrett in the second inning, three of which came after an error on Deven Marrero that happened with two outs. They would add another run in the fourth to go ahead 7-0.

The Devils chopped away at the lead in bottom of the fifth when Andrew Aplin hit a sacrifice fly to score Joey DeMichele and again in the eighth on a Marrero single to center.

But the Blue Hens pitching held, giving them the victory. Mark Lambson, brother of ASU reliever Mitchell Lambson, made his Arizona State debut, relieving Barrett in the fifth inning. He would dominate the Delaware hitters, not allowing a hit and striking out three over his five innings of work. He retired the first 11 batters he faced before allowing a walk, then did not allow another runner to reach.

Johnny Ruettiger had two hits and stole two bases, giving him seven steals on the year. Austin Barnes also added two hits.

The Sun Devils will host the Blue Hens in a doubleheader on Saturday with Game One starting at 12 p.m. The second game will begin 45 minutes following the first.
