LOS ANGELES, Calif.--Arizona State sophomore women's tennis player Jacqueline Cako advances to the finals of the ITA/Riviera All-American Championships in Los Angeles, Calif. on Saturday.
Cako defeated Kansas State's Petra Niedermayerova, 6-4, 7-5 in the tournament semifinals. The victory today sets up a finals match-up with second-ranked Allie Will of Florida on Sunday.
Cako, qualified for the ITA/Riviera All-American Championships by earning a top-25 ITA's preseason singles ranking. The Sun Devil began the season ranked 11th in the nation.
With her appearance in the semifinals, Cako automatically qualifies for a spot in the USTA/ITA National Indoor Intercollegiate Championships, Nov. 3-6 in Flushing, N.Y.
The sophomore is looking to become the second Sun Devil overall to win the ITA All-American Championships and the first since Kelcy McKenna took the individual title in 2008. McKenna, who was also a sophomore at the time, defeated Fani Chifchieva of Auburn, 6-3, 6-4 to take the title.
