LOS ANGELES, Calif.—Arizona State women’s tennis player Jacqueline Cako advances to the round of 16 at the 2011 ITA/Riviera Women’s All-American Championships in Los Angeles, Calif. on Thursday.
In the first round of the tournament, Cako defeated Florida’s Joanna Mather, 2-6, 6-2, 7-5, taking the Gator into extra sets. Cako, qualified for the ITA/Riviera All-American Championships by earning a top-25 ITA’s preseason singles ranking. The Sun Devil began the season ranked 11th in the nation.
Tomorrow, Cako faces 14th-ranked Aeriel Ellis of Texas in the round of 16. Cako previously faced Ellis in February when Arizona State played Texas in a dual match in Austin. Playing the No. 1 spot for ASU, Cako defeated Ellis 6-1, 6-4, in the Sun Devils’ 4-3 loss to the Longhorns.
