TEMPE- The No. 24 Arizona State men's golf team, led by senior Scott Pinckney's 2-under par 70, is in a tie for sixth place after two rounds at the South Central-Colorado NCAA Regional in Erie, Colo. The Sun Devils shot a 2-over par 290 at the 7,758-yard, par-72 Colorado National Golf Club, the longest course in NCAA championship history, and are at 4-under par 572 (282-290).

Pinckney carded a 2-under par 70 in the round and is tied for sixth with two other golfers at 5-under par 139 (69-70). He collected a trio of birdies on the front nine and played bogey-free golf until the 14th hole. Senior Jesper Kennegard, who ranks first in par-5 scoring at 4.25 strokes per, shot an even par 72 and is tied for 11th with a 3-under par 141 (69-72).

Senior James Byrne tallied a 3-over par 75, which puts him in a tie for 32nd at 1-over par 145 (70-75), and junior Philip Francis birdied two of the first three holes on the back nine to improve his two-round total by one stroke and sits in a tie for 46th at 3-over par 147 (74-73). Senior Thomas Buran shot a 3-over par 75, five strokes better than his first-round total, and is in 73rd at 11-over par 155 (80-75).

Top-ranked Oklahoma State remains atop the leaderboard at 25-under par 551 (276-275) after firing a 13-under par 275 in the second round, followed by Auburn with a 9-under par 567 (280-287). Georgia (294-276), who surged up the standings with a 12-under par 276, and Clemson (289-281) are tied for third at 6-under par 570, while TCU rounds out the top five with a 5-under par 571 (289-282).

The top five teams, plus the top individual from a team outside the top 5 or from 10 competing here as solo performers, will advance to the NCAA Championship Finals in Stillwater, May 31-June 5.

The weather improved from Thursday's conditions, which included rain, temperatures between 38 and 44 degrees and 11-15 miles per hour winds that had the wind chill as low as 31. Friday's temperature reached 60 degrees and the wind occasionally topped 10 mph; the skies held off from opening up until 3:30 (MT), when the horn was again blown for lightning in the area. The storm moved through and play resumed shortly after 5 p.m. (MT).
