TEMPE - Paced by a trio of seniors, the No. 24 Arizona State men's golf is in third place following the first round of the NCAA Regionals in Erie, Colo. The Sun Devils shot a 6-under par 282 on the longest course in NCAA Championship history behind the strong play of seniors Jesper Kennegard, Scott Pinckney and James Byrne.

Amid a strong wind and cold temperatures, Kennegard, who carded six birdies on the day, and Pinckney, who recorded four birdies, are tied for fourth following a 3-under par 69 by each of them. Byrne is tied for seventh after shooting a 2-under par 70.

Junior Philip Francis is tied for 47th at 2-over par 74 and senior Thomas Buran, at 8-over par 80, is tied for 73rd.

Oklahoma State is in first place with a 12-under par 276, followed by Auburn at 8-under par 280.

Play was suspended just before 4 p.m. due to lightning in the area with 33 players still on the course at the time and competition was called off for the day an hour later.

The first round will be resumed at 8 a.m. Friday morning; the field will then be re-paired with the second round starting at 10:30. The third and final round is scheduled to begin at 7:30 a.m. Saturday. Live coverage will be available on golfstat.com.
