TEMPE- A strong third round by both senior Oscar Zetterwall and junior Philip Francis paced the No. 23 Arizona State men's golf team at the Pac-10 Championship in Stanford, Calif. The Sun Devils recorded their best round of the tournament, a 9-over par 359, and are in 10th place at 52-over par 1102 (375-368-359).
Zetterwall climbed 10 spots on the leaderboard, from 22nd to 12th, after shooting an even par 70 in the second day of the event. He is knotted at 4-over par 214 (73-71-70) with three other golfers and sits five strokes behind the top five.
Francis also improved his standing with a 1-under par 69, one of only nine golfers to finish the third round below par, and moved into a tie for 33rd after starting the day tied for 45th. His three-round total stands at 9-over par 219 (76-74-69).
Senior Thomas Buran carded a 3-over par 73 and is tied for 39th with an 11-over par 221 (74-74-73), while senior Scott Pinckney registered a 2-over par 72 for the second consecutive round to bring his total to 12-over par 222 (78-72-72) and is tied for 42nd.
Senior James Byrne remained in a tie for 48th after shooting a 5-over par 75 and is at 16-over 226 (74-77-75) and senior Jesper Kennegard recorded a 6-over par 76, his best round of the tournament. He is in 60th at 29-over par 239 (80-83-76).
USC and Stanford each collected a 2-over par 352 in the third round, but the Trojans remained in the top spot with an 11-over par 1061 (355-354-352) while the Cardinal moved up to second at 14-over par 1064 (354-358-352). Oregon (351-359-360) and UCLA (353-360-357) are tied for third at 20-over par 1070.
