TEMPE, Ariz.-Led by a surging Carlota Ciganda, the Arizona State women’s golf team sits in sixth place heading into the final round of the 2011 PING/ASU Invitational at the ASU Karsten Golf Course in Tempe, Ariz.
The Sun Devils shot a two-day total of 586 (293-293) to sit 21 shots back from tournament co-leaders UCLA and USC, who head the field at 11-under 565.
Ciganda carded four birdies on the day to move up the leaderboard into a tie for third place, one stroke out of first place. The junior shot a 3-under 69, for a two-round total of 4-under 140 (71-69).
Last year’s individual champion Stephanie Kono moved into a tie for first place with Texas’ Madison Pressel, with both golfers shooting a two-round total of 5-under 139.
Freshman Justine Lee shot a 2-over 74 in the second round to tie for 21st with a two-day total of 146 (72-74). Junior Giulia Molinaro and freshman Laura Blanco are tied for 46th at 7-over 151. Freshman Daniela Ordonez rounds out the Sun Devil line-up with an 8-over 152 to tie for 56th.
Competing individually, freshman Brittany McKee is tied for 46th with a two-day total of 7-over 151, while Nicole Jones is tied for 84th with a 18-over 162.
The final round of the PING/ASU Invitational concludes tomorrow at the par-72, 6,230-yard ASU Karsten Golf Course.
