AUSTIN, Tex.--The Arizona State women's swim team opened the first day of the 2011 NCAA Championships with a strong showing, looking to build momentum to swim the bulk of it's events both Friday and Saturday.
With the top finish of the day, the Arizona State 400 medley relay touched in with a time of 3.35.15 to finish in 12th place on the first day of competition. The Sun Devils opened up the day in the 200 free relay prelims, finishing in 20th, just four spots out of the finals with a time of 1:30.97.
In the 500 free prelims, Sun Devil Cassie Morrice finished with the top time for ASU in the event, touching in at a time of 4:45.15 to finish in 37th.
Junior All-American Elina Eggers finished in 21st in the 1-meter prelims, just five spots out of qualifying for the finals. The second day of the NCAA Championships, hosted by the University of Texas, continue tomorrow in Austin, Texas.
