TEMPE – The No. 7 Arizona State University water polo team dropped a 12-3 decision to host and third-ranked USC on Friday night in a Mountain Pacific Sports Federation (MPSF) game held at the McDonald’s Swim Stadium in Los Angeles. The loss dropped the Sun Devils to 5-8 on the year and 0-3 in the MPSF with all three losses coming to Top 4 teams in the nation. The Trojans improved to 10-3 overall and 2-1 in the MPSF.

USC scored three goals in each quarter while limiting the Sun Devils to one goal each in the final three quarters of play. Lynlee Smith continued to have the hot hand as she scored twice to give her 23 on the year while Searra Silverberg netted her first goal and points of the season for ASU.

Defensively, Ianeta Hutchinson was credited for seven saves while starting in goal and playing the first three full quarters before Lucy Baranyi spelled her in the fourth and recorded one save.

The Sun Devils will remain in Southern California for a trio of games on Saturday as they will take part in the Claremont Convergence. ASU will take on No. 11 Long Beach State, (Division III No. 2) Redlands and Colorado State at the Pomona-Pitzer pool.
