CORVALLIS, Ore. – Seven left on base and timely Oregon State hitting were the tragic flaws in the No. 7 ASU Softball’s Saturday afternoon loss as they fell in a 2-1 loss to the OSU Beavers. Hillary Bach took the loss in the outing, falling to 22-5 on the year as ASU now holds a 40-12 record and 9-8 Pac-10 record. The OSU Beavers improve to 23-28 on the season and 3-14 conference record.
Even with the Sun Devils threatening in the second inning, they went away empty-handed as the Beavers won the race to the scoreboard adding a run in the bottom of the inning with pitcher Paige Hall going yard to right center to push OSU up 1-0.
With two more on the bases for ASU in the third inning the Sun Devils were chomping at the bit, but were again unable to capitalize, leaving the ducks on the pond. But the Devils weren’t to stay quiet for long though as they came back in the fourth inning to finally plate a run as lead off singles Kaylyn Castillo and Mandy Urfer and some crafty base running helped tie it up with an RBI ground out from Annie Lockwood.
With it knotted at one apiece the Sun Devil offense flatlined, as they loaded up the bases in the sixth inning with only one out, but two strike outs later and the offensive attack was deflated.
OSU took the opportunity to take it to ASU as McKenna Lowe’s single proved to be the nail in the coffin as Audrey Roderfeld knocked a 2-2 pitch through the right side for an RBI that proved to be the difference.
The Sun Devil’s will look to take the series tomorrow with one last shot against the Beaver’s, as they take on OSU at 11 a.m. PT in Corvallis, Ore.
