TEMPE, Ariz. – A flat offense and lenient pitching set the tone Saturday afternoon as the No. 10 ASU Softball team fell in a 9-0 (5) loss to the No. 1 Washington Huskies to close out the 2010 regular season. Hillary Bach took the loss to fall to 23-7 on the year while ASU finishes the regular season 41-5 overall and 10-11 in Pac-10 play. Danielle Lawrie took the win for UW, moving to 35-2 overall while pushing the Huskies to 45-6 on the year, and a Pac-10 best 17-4.
It was all UW Saturday as they came out to command the game early on, putting two on the board with an RBI single from Danielle Lawrie and a sac fly from Morgan Stuart to jump ahead 2-0. They added two more in the second as well as a two-RBI single from Danielle Lawrie gave UW the 4-0 advantage and sent Clint Myers to his bullpen to bring in Sam Parlich.
Parlich was able to muffle the Husky offense for a couple innings until they bared their teeth again in the fourth inning as two lead-off walks ended up costly as back-to-back RBI hits followed with a home run suddenly pushed Washington to a 9-0 lead and another pitching change to Megan Elliott.
Elliott locked in for the rest of the game, though her offense did not as all they could muster were two hits on the day as Lawrie zoned in for her 35th win of the season, which ended early in five innings.
