TEMPE, Ariz. - The No. 1 Arizona State University baseball team lost 4-2 to Arizona on Tuesday in a non-conference game at Winkles Field-Packard Stadium at Brock Ballpark. The Sun Devils fall to 31-4 on the season with the loss.
ASU struck first with a two-run double by Raoul Torrez in the bottom of the second, but that would be the only runs of the night for the Sun Devils.
Arizona took the lead with a three-run fourth, capped off by an RBI double by Bobby Brown that put the Wildcats in front. They would add another run in the eighth, and then after the Sun Devils loaded the bases with one out in the bottom half of the eighth, Arizona reliever Bryce Bandilla retired Riccio Torrez and Zach Wilson to end ASU's best chance to rally.
Brady Rodgers took the loss, allowing seven hits and three runs with six strikeouts over 6.2 innings. He falls to 2-2 on the season. Arizona starter Daniel Workman went 6.1 innings and gave up just five hits and two runs to earn the win.
The Sun Devils will return to Pac-10 Conference action on Friday, when they begin a three-game series with Washington. First pitch is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. at Winkles Field-Packard Stadium at Brock Ballpark.
