Men's Golf Just Five Strokes Back Entering Final Round of USC Invitational

The men's golf team is in second place just five shots back of Oregon after the first two rounds Monday at the USC Collegiate Invitational. Oregon is at 12-under 556 (279-277) while ASU is at 7-under 561 (282-279).

Jesper Kennegard is tied for third at 6-under 136 as he fired a pair of 68s, while Scott Pinckney is just one shot back of Kennegard with 5-under 137 (67-70) and is tied for sixth.

James Byrne is tied for 27th at 1-over 143 (74-69), Spencer Fletcher is tied for 39th at 4-over 146 (74-72) and Knut Borsheim is tied for 74th at 11-over 153 (73-80). Tristan Bierenbroodspot, competing as an individual, is 7-over 149 (69-80) and tied for 59th.

Pepperdine is third at 3-under 565 (289-276), UCLA at 2-under 566 (282-282) and host USC round out the top five, as the Trojans are also at 2-under 566 (283-283).

The teams will conclude action Tuesday with 18 holes.

The tournament is being held at North Ranch Country Club in Westlake Village, Calif. (par-71/6,869 yards). Fourteen teams are in the field including ASU, BYU, California, Fresno State, Oregon, Oregon State, Pepperdine, San Diego State, Stanford, UC Davis, UCLA, Charlotte, USC and San Diego.

ASU won the team title in 1980, 1983, 1986, 1993, 1996, 1998, 2000 and 2001. Sun Devils David Lee (1979), Dan Forsman (1980), Billy Mayfair (1987), Todd Demsey (1994) and Paul Casey (1998) won the individual title.
