TEMPE, Ariz. – Another banner night for Danica Mendivil ended in a tough 3-0 loss to the No. 11 Washington Huskies Friday night with UW taking off with a 25-20, 25-23, 20-23 win to push their record to 19-7 overall and 8-7 in conference play. With the loss Sun Devils move to 11-16 overall and 5-9 in the Pac-10 with one last remaining home match on the schedule.

Set one saw ASU come out a bit shaky as they only swung a .125 clip with Sarah Reaves leading ASU with four kills and Danica Mendivil following in her footsteps with three kills. The Huskies went on the offensive though with Becky Perry killing five kills for a nasty .444 attack percentage while the Huskies put three blocks on the floor to take off with 25-20 win.

The Sun Devils came out to battle in the second set forcing 14 tie scores and four lead changes in the set to push UW to the brink with Erica Wilson slamming three to the floor with a .400 attack percentage. In the end UW’s five blocks and Kindra Carlson’s six kills for a .417 attack percentage made the difference for the Huskies as they snaked a 25-23 win to head 2-0 into the break.

ASU battled again in set three with eight tie scores and three lead changes, but it wasn’t meant to be as Kindra Carlson exploded again for six more kills and a .308 average while UW’s offense kept pace with a .364 overall percentage. Sarah Reaves fought the good fight in the set as well with six kills for a .312 average, but the Huskies were determined to put it away which they did with a 25-22 final to close the sweep.

The Sun Devils will close out their home season tomorrow night as they set to host the Washington State Cougars. Come out to see Sun Devil seniors Sarah Johnson and Sarah Reaves’ last career match in Wells Fargo Arena!
