ASU at New Mexico Postgame Notes
*Sophomore Trent Lockett posted a career high 22 points on 9-of-12 shooting, as the nine field goals also was a career-high. It marked the tenth double-digit scoring game in Lockett's 34-game career.
*Herb Sendek is now 15-3 in season openers in his career. He is 2-3 at ASU and was 10-0 at NC State and 3-0 at Miami of Ohio.
*Five Sun Devil newcomers played 71 minutes and had 17 points and 12 boards. Kyle Cain led the way with eight points and seven boards in 24 minutes. Keala King played 16 minutes, mainly at the point guard spot, and didn't commit a turnover.
*Ty Abbott notched his 200th career three-pointer on Tuesday. He is sixth on the ASU all-time list, while teammate Rihards Kuksiks now is fifth with 21.
*Of the 73 teams in the major conferences, ASU was one of only six to open the season with a true road game. No Big 12, SEC or ACC teams do it. The six were: Georgetown winning at ODU (Nov. 12); Seton Hall losing at Temple (Nov. 12); Northwestern winning at Northern Illinois (Nov. 12); Rutgers losing at Princeton (Nov. 15); St. John's losing at St. Mary's (Nov. 16) and Arizona State losing at New Mexico (Nov. 16).
*ASU opened on the road for he first time since Dec. 1, 1992, when it fell to BYU 108-98. It marked only the sixth time in ASU's 33 years of Pac-10 play it had opened the season on the road.
