TEMPE, Ariz.-- The Arizona State women's basketball team dominated in their season opener against head coach Charli Turner Thorne's former team Northern Arizona, winning 81-46.

Arizona State went on a 21-0 run in the first half, outscoring the Lumberjacks 41-12 after the Sun Devils forced 19 turnovers. Northern Arizona was 4-of-23 in the first half.

The team ruled the court in rebounds, with 56 total in comparison to NAU's 38. Joy Burke led the team in rebounds with 10.

Dymond Simon was astounding in her regular season debut after being injured last year. Simon scored 18 points for the Devils, and went 7-of-16. Simon also led the team in steals with six out of the team's total of 15.

Kimberly Brandon and Becca Tobin each scored 10 points, as the Arizona State starters had 51 points total, five more than the entire NAU team put together.

Amy Patton was the leading scorer for the Lumberjacks with 20 points, more than the other four starters combined. Northern Arizona went 17-of-54 in the game, and 10-of-20 in free throws.
