La Quinta, Calif.- The men's golf team is in second place at 2-over par 290 following the opening round of The Prestige at PGA West in La Quinta, Calif. ASU is just four strokes behind the leader behind the play of seniors Thomas Buran and Jesper Kennegard, who each ended the day in the top-10 individually.
Buran shot a 4-under par 68 and is in sole possession of second place, and Kennegard fired a 1-under par 71 and is in a tie for eighth place. Senior Scott Pinckney is tied for 31st at 3-over par 75, while junior Philip Francis recorded a 4-over par 76 and is tied for 38th. Junior Spencer Fletcher, in a tie for 48th, is just a stroke back at 5-over par 77.
The University of California-Berkeley is in first at 2-under par 286 and a pair of Pac-10 schools, Washington and Stanford, is tied with the University of San Diego for third place with a 6-over par 294. Oregon is in 6th after shooting a 7-over par 295.
