Complete First Round Results in PDF Format
The ninth-ranked men's golf team ended the first day of the Olympia Fields/Fighting Illini Invitational in 14th place after shooting a 16-over par 296. Held at Olympia Fields Country Club (7,157 yards/par 70), the Sun Devils were led by senior James Byrne and junior Philip Francis, who each shot a 1-over par 71 to finish the first round tied for 19th.
Senior Thomas Buran shot a 6-over par 76 and is tied for 56th, and senior Scott Pinckney fired an 8-over par 78 to tie for 65th. Senior Jesper Kennegard is tied for 74th after finishing the day with a 10-over par 80.
Defending national champion Augusta State and the University of Florida are tied for the overall lead after each recording an even-par 280. Ohio State sits in third after collecting a 2-over par 282, while Stanford is tied for 8th at 7-over par 297 and the University of California Berkley shot a 10-over par 290 to end the day tied for 11th.
