TEMPE, Ariz.(by Carmen Vitali) - The Arizona State Sun Devils say they still need to improve despite a 41-20 win over Northern Arizona Saturday night at Sun Devil Stadium. Junior quarterback Steven Threet had a record-setting night, completing 33 of 49 passes for 391 total yards, 3 touchdowns and two interceptions. The completions, attempts, yards and touchdowns were all career-highs for Threet.
The score was relatively close up until the third quarter when Arizona State finally pulled away to gain a 27-13 lead over the Lumberjacks. Then a penalty afforded NAU a first down and new life on the drive. Quarterback Michael Herrick then hit receiver Khalil Paden for a 35-yard touchdown pass to put NAU within one score of ASU with a score of 27-20.
Those were however the last points NAU would score as ASU gained some rhythm towards the end of the game and scored two more touchdowns to make the final score 41-20 over their in-state rival.
Week three holds the last non-conference game of the season for the Sun Devils. They will play the Big Ten’s University of Wisconsin Badgers on Saturday September 18 at Camp Randall Stadium in Madison, Wisconsin. Kickoff will be at 12:30 PT and the game will be televised on ABC nationally.
