The Arizona State women's golf team fell to second place after day two of the NCAA Central Regional. The Sun Devils posted a 22-over 310 at the par-72 Otter Creek Golf Course to finish with a two-day total of 31-over 607. USC leads by four shots with 27-over 603.
"It was very windy, very difficult conditions, but it is possible to score on this course," said eighth year head coach Melissa Luellen. "I saw a lot of fight but we didn't compete as well as we could have. We need to work on our short game. We lost some shots today because of our short game."
Junior Jaclyn Sweeney led the team today with a 4-over 76. She is currently tied for ninth at 7-over 151. Sophomore Carlota Ciganda carded 5-over 77 in the second round and will enter the final round tied for 14th at 9-over 153. Juliana Murcia will enter the last round tied for seventh after shooting 6-over 150 over the past two days.
Jennifer Johnson is tied for 14th with Ciganda after shooting 9-over 153 (75-78). Giulia Molinaro finished the second round tied for 56th at 16-over 160 (80-80).
"I have a team of competitors and I want to see a fun competitive round tomorrow," said Luellen.
The Sun Devils will be paired with USC and Oklahoma State for the final round. ASU has to place in the top eight to advance to their 19th straight NCAA Championship.
