Tempe, Ariz.- The ninth-ranked women's water polo team dropped its final MPSF Conference match of the season, losing to No. 14 San Diego State 11-8 April 17 at the Mona Plummer Aquatic Center in Tempe. Junior attacker Lynlee Smith led the Sun Devils (15-12, 0-7 MPSF) with a hat trick, her sixth of the season.

ASU took the lead after sophomore goalie Dana Harvey connected on a pool-length pass to senior center Kelly Phelps for the game's first score. The Aztecs followed with a trio of goals in the middle of the first quarter, but the Sun Devils answered with three goals of their own to end the frame up, 4-3. Sophomore attacker Annabelle Carter found the back of the net to begin ASU's charge, then Smith bounced one into the cage and junior center Nikki Unbehaun finished the run.

San Diego St. added three goals in the second quarter to take a 6-4 lead midway through the frame, but senior attacker Kari Walsh set up Smith for a score in the final minute to bring ASU within a goal at halftime.

ASU ended the third period down 8-7 after freshman center Shannon Haas netted a pair of goals in the frame. Smith added her third goal of the game in the fourth quarter, but the Aztecs recorded three in the first half of the frame to put the match out of reach.

Harvey finished the game with eight saves in four quarters of play.

The Sun Devils head to Los Angeles for the MPSF Championships April 30 to May 2 at UCLA.
