Men's Golf Finishes Strong In Final Competition Before Pac-10 Championship

On Monday afternoon, the men's golf team shot what would end up the low round of the U.S. Intercollegiate held at Stanford Golf Course (par 70/6,742 yards) with an 8-under 272, led by three scores in the 60s. On Tuesday in the final round, the Sun Devils shot a 5-under 275, which would match the third-best team score, as it finished tenth at 16-over 856.

ASU improved its score by 37 strokes after shooting a 309 in the rain-drenched first round and then improved by 34 strokes from the first day in the final round. It finished at 16-over 856. Oregon won the event with a 1-under 839 (286-277-276).

Jesper Kennegard (tied for 11th at 1-under 209) had a 66 in the final round after shooting a 64 in the second round, while James Byrne tied for 31st at 5-over 215 after firing a 2-under 68 in each of the final two rounds. Scott Pinckney improved his score by eight strokes from 79 to 71 in the second round and followed that up with a 72 in the final round. Spencer Fletcher finished at 16-over 226 (76-79-71).

ASU now hosts the Pac-10 Championships April 26-28 at Karsten Golf Course. The Sun Devils are 12-time champions of the event, including the 2008 title and six straight titles from 1995-2000.
