TEMPE - The first collegiate events of the 31st Sun Angel Track Classic were held Friday night in Tempe as four hammer throw competitions were conducted at Sun Angel Stadium on campus. Senior Jason Lewis led the charge for the host Sun Devils by winning the premiere portion of the men's event while three other members of the program competed on the day as well.

Lewis, who placed sixth in the event at the 2009 NCAA Championships, recorded two tosses of nearly 220-feet each and hit that exact measurement (67.07m/220-0) to win his second hammer competition of the year. His toss gave him the victory by just over three feet as Brad Millar (DePaul) took second in 66.13m (216-11).

In the men's open competition, redshirt freshman Jordan Clarke recorded a personal-best mark of 57.76m (189-06) to take sixth overall with places four through seven separated by just four centimeters. The toss for Clarke lands him on the school's all-time Top 10 list in the No. 8 position as well.

In the women's open competition, both Cj Navarro and Ashley Lampley competed with Navarro taking seventh place overall and Lampley 13th. Navarro, who made the finals as the ninth and final qualifier, moved up two positions with a toss of 50.11m (164-05) for her best mark of the day, which was within nine centimeters of fifth place. Lampley finished the day with a toss of 45.29m (148-07).

The action continues in the 31st Classic all day Saturday, starting with the discus at 9 a.m. (women followed by men). The first events on the track will start at 11:50 a.m. with the 100m/110m hurdles while the Sun Angel Premiere section opens at 6:00 p.m. with the 200m dashes. Tickets are $7 for adults and $5 for those under 18 and over 60. Groups of 15 or more can enter together for $3 per person.
