The seventh-ranked women's water polo team defeated Cal Baptist 14-13 Friday night in the first game of the ASU Invitational at Mona Plummer Aquatic Center in Tempe, Ariz. Senior attacker Bonnie Miles and freshman center Shannon Haas each scored four goals for the Sun Devils (21-8, 0-3), who played their first home game of the season after playing 20 matches on the road.

Junior center Nikki Unbehaun scored less than a minute into the match and attackers sophomore Annabelle Carter and junior Sarah Harris each scored in the first quarter to put ASU up, 3-2. Haas netted the first of her four goals with 2:25 left in the frame to tie the match at four apiece.

Miles and Haas each scored a pair of goals in the second quarter and sophomore goalie Amanda Young collected three saves to push ASU out to an 8-6 lead at intermission. Junior attacker Lynlee Smith netted a hat trick in the third frame and now has 101 goals in her career.

Up two heading into the final frame, the Sun Devils gave up their lead in the opening minutes after allowing a pair of quick goals. However, Haas found the back of the net with just under three minutes remaining in the game and Miles followed with a goal less than two minutes later to provide ASU the lead for good.

Young recorded eight saves in the win, including two in the final period.
