The sixth-ranked women's water polo team fell to No. 7 San Jose State 8-7 in San Jose, Calif. Junior attacker Sarah Harris led the Sun Devils (12-7, 0-2) with three goals.
ASU fell behind 3-1 in the first quarter and then kept pace with the Spartans in the second frame with a pair of goals to stay two back of SJU. The Sun Devils outscored SJU by two in the third stanza to tie the game at five, but allowed three Spartan goals in the final quarter and lost by one.
Freshman center Shannon Haas and three attackers found the back of the net for the Sun Devils, including senior Bonnie Miles, junior Lynlee Smith and sophomore Kelsey White. Sophomore goalie Dana Harvey started the game and collected four saves, while freshman Amanda Young made six.
The Sun Devils head to Stanford March 21 for an MPSF Conference match against the No. 2 Cardinal at 12:00 p.m. (PST) in Palo Alto, Calif.
