PHOENIX, Ariz.- Amateur golfers rarely qualify for PGA events and amateur golfers almost never make the cut. But last weekend Arizona State golfer Braxton Marquez lived every amateur golfer's dream, both qualifying and making the cut at the Waste Management Phoenix Open.
Hailing from Scottsdale, Marquez played in the PGA tour event in front of friends and family. The senior started off the tournament with a 74 on day one, only to resurge and shoot a 65 to make the cut on Friday.
Marquez caught the attention of the media as the feel good story of the tournament. As a boy, Marquez attended the Phoenix Open working for his father's catering business. Now, he was competing in the tour event he had attended all these years.
The Sun Devil would finish the Phoenix Open in 78th place. And while he didn't take away any monetary prize from the event, he fulfilled a chance of a lifetime in which most golfers' dream.
