The eighth-ranked water polo team defeated No. 9 Cal State Northridge 14-4 Feb. 27 in the first game of the UC Irvine Invitational in Irvine, Calif. Sophomore attacker Annabelle Carter led the Sun Devils with four goals.
After the two teams traded goals in the first quarter, ASU outscored the Matadors 13-3 over the next three frames to advance to the next game.
Sophomore attacker Mariam Salloum has a team-high 14 goals on the season after netting three against CSUN and freshman center Shannon Haas recorded her first hat trick of the season. Sophomore goalie Dana Harvey had three saves in three quarters of play and freshman Amanda Young collected a pair in the final period.
The Sun Devils will face top-ranked Stanford at 2:00 p.m. (PST) Feb. 27.
