The eighth-ranked water polo team used a five-goal second quarter to beat No. 5 Michigan 11-6 Feb. 28 in the third game of the UC Irvine Invitational in Irvine, Calif. The Sun Devils improved to 6-4 overall and 0-0 in the MPSF.
ASU jumped out to a 3-1 lead after the opening quarter and then stretched the margin to seven goals by halftime.
Junior center Sarah Harris paced the offense with three goals, while sophomore attacker Kelsey White and junior attacker Lynlee Smith each found the back of the net twice. Freshman goalie Amanda Young grabbed 12 saves in just her second time playing the entire game.
The Sun Devils will battle for fifth place Feb. 28 at 2:45 a.m. (PST).
