The eighth-ranked water polo team made a second-half comeback against top-ranked Stanford, but fell short 15-8 Feb. 27 at the UC Irvine Invitational in Irvine, Calif. The Sun Devils are now 5-4 overall and 0-0 in the MPSF.

ASU dropped behind the Cardinal early before mounting a comeback and scoring five goals in the second half, including three in the final frame. The Sun Devils have outscored opponents 24-10 in the fourth quarter through nine games this season.

Junior attacker Lynlee Smith collected her third hat trick of the season and sophomore attacker Annabelle Carter added a pair of goals and now has a team-high six through two games in the invitational. Sophomore goalie Dana Harvey and freshman Amanda Young had three saves apiece.

The Sun Devils will play again Feb. 28 at 8 a.m. (PST) against No. 5 Michigan.
