TEMPE, Ariz. – In a re-match of the 2008 NCAA Championship Series, offensive firepower spelled the story with two home runs apiece hit on the night with the grand slam from Katelyn Boyd giving the Sun Devils the edge while Megan Elliott pitched the win for ASU as they took a 10-4 win from the Aggies to push their season to 4-1 overall and Elliott’s record to 2-1.

The Aggies came out to take the lead first though, drawing first blood right out of the gate as a lead-off walk and single proved costly for the Sun Devils as Rhiannon Kliesling launched a three run shot to center field with the first pitch she saw.

ASU fired back in the second inning as Mandy Urfer pulled a walk with Christina Zambrana pulling a single next up before Lesley Rogers drew a walk before Talor Haro earned first to load the bases, for Katelyn Boyd who strode to the plate hitting .400 with three home runs to her name. The proof was in the pudding though as Boyd didn’t disappoint launching a grand slam deep into left field to break the game open and give the Sun Devils a 5-3 lead.

Texas A&M wasn’t done yet though as they rallied up to put another on the board with a solo home run to left field off a 1-1 pitch to pull it to 5-4, but that’s all ASU would tolerate as they posted two more runs on the board in the third as Mandy Urfer stole home in a sneak attack, before Lesley Rogers came through again for an RBI single to push a 7-3 lead.

A three run home run from Christina Zambrana sealed the fate for the Aggies as ASU took off with a 10-4 lead in the fifth inning while Megan Elliott finished off the rest, throwing 134 pitches while allowing only seven hits and four runs with six K’s to take her second win on the season.

The Sun Devils will finish up the 2010 Kajikawa Classic tomorrow afternoon as they set to face the Southern Utah Thunderbirds in Tempe at Farrington Stadium at 1:30 p.m.
