The ninth-ranked water polo team fell to No. 3 Hawai'i 11-7 Feb. 6 in the opening game of the Stanford Invitational in Palo Alto, Calif. It was the first loss of the season for the Sun Devils (3-1, 0-0), who outscored their opponent 45-5 in the previous three games.

ASU scored a goal in each of the first two quarters, but trailed the Rainbow Wahine 6-2 at halftime. The Sun Devils battled back with five goals in the second half, but the comeback fell short by four, 11-7.

Junior attacker Lynlee Smith netted a pair of goals, her third multiple goal game of the season, and sophomore attacker Annabelle Carter recorded her team-leading ninth goal of the season.

The Sun Devils take on No. 4 California tonight in the second game of the Stanford Invitational.
