The ninth-ranked water polo team was defeated 12-6 by No. 4 California in the second game of the Stanford Invitational in Palo Alto, Calif. It was the second loss in a row for the Sun Devils (3-2, 0-0), who fell to No. 3 Hawai'i earlier in the day.

ASU fell behind early after the Golden Bears netted nine goals in the first half. The Sun Devils held Cal to only three goals in the next two quarters, but the deficit proved to be too large.

Sophomore attacker Kelsey White recorded her first career hat trick, while fellow South African Sarah Harris added her fourth goal of the season. Freshman Amanda Young collected six saves in her first complete game in the net.

The Sun Devils face MPSF conference foe No. 5 UCLA at 9:10 a.m. (PST) Feb. 7 in the third game of the Stanford Invitational.
